Dual Membership
A partnership between the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association (AMBA) and Mortgage Professionals Canada (MPC) was created in response to stakeholder feedback asking for a more unified approach to association representation.
We have been working with AMBA to identify more effective ways to better serve our collective members. Streamlining key areas such as education, government relations, consumer outreach and member communications drive efficiencies, enhance member value and provide a strong and united industry voice.
For more information about the dual membership with AMBA, please contact us at [email protected].
Learn how Mortgage Professionals Canada's brokerage-based membership model works, including how membership dues are calculated, who is included and how mortgage professionals can access membership through their brokerage.
MPC membership is brokerage-based because it reflects how the mortgage industry itself is structured.
Regulators license firms. Insurers contract with firms. Mortgage professionals operate through firms. MPC membership follows that same general structure.
MPC uses the number of licensed mortgage professionals as a consistent way to calculate membership dues for brokerages of different sizes.
Using licensed mortgage professional counts provides a basis that is:
Allowing a brokerage to participate through only one or two individuals would create an imbalance between otherwise similar brokerages.
Consider two brokerages that each have 500 licensed mortgage professionals. If one participated through only one individual while the other supported membership across all 500, organizations of essentially the same size would be participating on very different terms.
The brokerage-based membership model is intended to ensure that similarly sized brokerages participate on reasonably comparable terms.
No. The brokerage decides whether to become an MPC member. The number of licensed mortgage professionals is simply the basis used to calculate the brokerage’s membership dues.
The brokerage can decide how it handles that cost within its own business.
MPC membership is generally accessed through a member brokerage.
If you would like your brokerage to become an MPC member, our membership team can work with you and your brokerage leadership to explain the membership structure, benefits and value of membership.
The brokerage-based membership model allows MPC to bring together brokerages and mortgage professionals under one national membership structure, while sharing the cost of supporting the association in a transparent and proportional way.
MPC currently brings together more than 1,000 member companies and over 15,000 mortgage professionals.
